Game Wizards

What is Game Wizards?

Game Wizards is a special class at the Art Institute of CA, Santa Monica, designed to give students the experience of working in a real game development studio. It's made up of a team of about 40-60 students that vote on the best of their own game ideas and spend the next three quarters developing that game from scratch. Game Wizards has become finalists in the "Make Something Unreal" contest and are becoming more and more well known every quarter, and is something I'm proud to have been a part of for more than 2 years.

Games:

EXODUS

"Exodus" game

Game Project Description: Exodus is an Unreal game mod that was created from scratch by the Game Wizards team that consisted of around 40-60 Game Art students. Since the majority of students were beginners and were able to learn enough to complete this game in only three quarters, "Exodus" is by far the biggest project the Wizards team has developed so far.
My Role: My job title was level lead/level designer for the very first level, which was the laboratory/swamp level. In the 3 quarters (9 months) of working on this game, I had to map out a topdown of the level, develop gameplay ideas, manage my "swamp team" that was made up of a total of 12 students and assign them assets to make, block out the level, create some of my own assets, place all our assets in the level, light it, and kismet it. All the work I did on this game was to gain personal experience and I did not receive any school credit.
Game Plot:

Biological experiment to increase crop growth goes horribly wrong when it falls into the hands of evil Dr. Reed, and plants all over the world grow and mutate, killing almost the entire human race. It's up to one female scientist named Aiden to track down and defeat the evil and powerful Dr. Reed, and save any survivors that she comes across along the way.

***IMPORTANT NOTE: The following screenshots are of the Lab/Swamp Level. As the Swamp Team Lead, I designed the level and placed all of the assets in it, but DID NOT create all of the assets. These assets were created by my hard-working 'swamp team' of environment artists.

Game Project Description:
"Killing Time" is a Game Wizards game made in the Unreal Engine. It's a side scrolling single player and multiplayer shooter.
My Role:
This is the first Wizards game I worked on and I spent three quarters (9 months) modeling and texturing futuristic and urban themed assets.
Game Plot:

Big master robot sends evil lesser robots through time and space to destroy the human race. The player must travel through time to kill the robots before they can accomplish their evil goal!

Millagun

"Millagun" game

Game Plot:
In deep space the evil alien overlord Gienah has captured one of the Space Federation’s  most prized space stations. You are the pilot of the experimental one of a kind assault ship Millagun and the only ship that has been able to breakthrough Gienah’s formidable defenses.  You are the only hope of saving the thousands of humans on Space Station Alpha and putting a stop the threat that Gienah’s hordes pose to the universe.
My Role:
My role took place mainly in just the pre-production process of this game, and I worked on it for about 3 months. I modeled and textured the "Millagun" ship, or the main vehicle of the game. I also created 3 levels using Unreal assets that helped Gerardo Tioseco, the project lead, demonstrate in his final pitch to Game Wizards how the overall gameplay would be, which helped the game get voted for and become developed.

"Titanic" game

Game Project Description:
This was going to be a Titanic themed online game that Game Wizards was helping an outside company create. Although this game was cancelled due to an insufficient number of teammates, I at least gained some experience in making antique old fashion-styled furniture assets.
My Role:
Modeling and texturing clean furniture for the upper class level of the Titanic ship.
